This is perfect, for a week of hanging out with horses, even if you’re a novice. This is a great opportunity to spend time on the back of a horse, seeing the wildlife of Costa Rica and learning about a carbon neutral farm / forest and experience other elements of the country such as turtle tours, rainforests, and the beach. Shawna and Rod have taken over from the previous owners and it’s as if they’ve been there forever, with their knowledge of the horses, their friendliness and their desire to share their knowledge. Staying at Tortuga del Mar at Playa Hermanos was fab, although if you get bored in one location, maybe hire a car to get out and about. For lazebags like me it was great, as the only thing I had to think about was where to eat of an evening and the choices were pretty good. It’s great to sit on the beach and watch the surfers, the pelicans and the macaws. Loved it. I travelled here on my own after a week at Manuel Antonio, and this was a great experience. Shawna and Rod were so friendly and engaging. I can’t imagine how tiring it is to be around guests the majority of the day but they are so super kind and friendly, and their genuiness and love of the horses really rubs off. Please go and hang out if you’re chilled, relaxed and want a cool time.

Hope you are having a pleasant day with your wonderful horses!! We are still talking about the mud, the fresh fruit and how fun it was to be around both of you. The tour is something we shall remember our entire lives!!

I just wanted to tell you the my ride with you guys last week was probably the best experience of my ten day vacation in Costa Rica. From A to Z you couldn’t have done a better job. You’re knowledge of the area was also nice because it was interesting information. Once again, thank you for a great experience, and when I come down again, I will definately be back!!

I was visiting Jaco as part of a yoga retreat. Besides the AWESOME yoga, our event planner had several activities planned for us, and this was my favorite. Riding through the rain forest on these gentle, intelligent horses was the way to see it all, as far as I\’m concerned. You\’re up a bit higher, and you don\’t have to watch as carefully for things to avoid on the path! Along the way the guides shared their knowledge of the forest witih us, pointing out special trees and flowers, and even spying a monkey hiding among the trees. We ended up at a beautiful little pool, stripped down to our bathing suits, and sank into the cool refreshing water. One of our guides appeared witih a large bowl of volanic mud, which we slathered all over our bodies. Wow! A spa treatment right there in the jungle! So good after our long ride. Soon after we hopped back on our horses and rode back as the sun began to fade. My horse was Cappy and he was wonderful.

Discovery Horse Tours was amazing. We had a great time horse back riding and then we had a nice surprise at the end. I got to ride “Mr V” while my boyfriend enjoyed “Whiskey’s” company. During the ride, we got to see a little of everything like birds, creepy insects, iguanas, monkeys, a beautiful rainforest and even a crocodile! Andrea and Chris are kind and knowledgeable people. I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat!

This facility houses some of the loveliest horses in Costa Rica. Well cared for and personal attention to the group’s interests, this attraction topped any other stable. We learned so much about the land and the rainforest while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Rainforests, green pastures, banana groves... It was breathtaking and the horses are especially personable and fun.

My wife and I booked the “Honeymoon Adventure” with Discovery and had an absolute blast. The owners and guides were extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Be aware that if you drive yourself there, you will think you are lost, but rest assured that their directions are spot on and the drive is worth it.

It is obvious that the horses are well cared for and they were a pleasure to ride. The area that the tour goes through is beautiful and the waterfall is spectacular. If you and your significant other desire a bit more privacy and personalized service, I would highly recommend the Honeymoon tour. The little added perks were also a fun bonus. We also had the chance to eat lunch with the owners and guide at a local restaurant afterwards (not on site, but on the road leading out from the farm) and they shared their local knowledge and tips to make our honeymoon unforgettable. We only have great things to say about their operation and hospitality and will definitely be back sometime in the future! Thanks again everyone!

My family (including grandpa) loved the day we spent with Discovery Horse Tours. I had MANY questions before we arrived and Andrea answered each one with a smile. They put safety first with my three children ages 6, 9, and 10. We all fell in love with the horses and the dogs. We were new to horses but felt comfortable with the instruction we were given. Our half day trip was AMAZING with all of the the wildlife and information it was better than the national park. My favorites were the tucan and the leaf-cutter ants...so cool! The dip in the waterfall cooled us off on a hot day. We also got some great advice on surfing spots, thanks Andrea and Chris!
